How to add a comparison table to your Shopify home goods store

A home goods comparison table lets shoppers evaluate dimensions, materials, and pricing side by side before making a purchase decision. The home goods comparison tables overview covers why these tables help conversion — this page walks through how to set one up in Shopify with SimplyCompare.

Step 1: Install SimplyCompare from the Shopify App Store

Search for SimplyCompare in the Shopify App Store, install it, and connect it to your store. No theme modifications are required at this stage. SimplyCompare adds an app block to your Shopify theme that you will use later to embed your comparison table on the relevant pages.

Step 2: Set up your home goods product metafields

SimplyCompare comparison tables pull data from Shopify product metafields. For home goods and furniture, the attributes shoppers most often compare include dimensions (width, depth, height in centimetres), weight, primary material or materials (wood type, upholstery, metal finish), care and maintenance instructions, assembly required (true/false), and weight capacity where relevant. Define these in Shopify Settings > Custom Data > Products under a namespace like home. If your metafields are already in place, skip to step 3.

Step 3: Create your comparison table in SimplyCompare

Open SimplyCompare, create a new comparison table, and add the home goods products you want to include. Configure your columns by mapping each metafield to a visible attribute in the table. For a furniture comparison table, that might mean columns for dimensions, materials, assembly required, and price. SimplyCompare reads current metafield values live from Shopify, so the table is accurate from the moment you publish it.

Step 4: Embed the table and publish

Use the SimplyCompare app block in the Shopify theme editor to embed the table on the relevant page — a product page comparing alternative styles, a collection page for a product range, or a dedicated comparison landing page. Once published, the table updates automatically whenever your Shopify product data changes — dimensions, materials, or pricing updates flow through to the comparison table without any additional action from your team.

Frequently asked questions

Do I need a developer to set up comparison tables for home goods in Shopify?

No. The setup is entirely no-code. You configure metafields in Shopify’s standard admin and tables in the SimplyCompare app admin, then embed using the standard app block in the Shopify theme editor.

Can I display dimensions in both metric and imperial in the same comparison table?

You can store dimension values in whatever format you prefer in your metafields. If you want to show both metric and imperial, storing a text metafield with both values — for example, “120 × 60 × 75 cm / 47 × 24 × 30 in” — is a practical approach for a single column display.

What happens if I update a product’s dimensions in Shopify?

The comparison table reflects the updated dimensions the next time a shopper loads the page. SimplyCompare reads from the Shopify Storefront API at render time — there is no manual update step for the table itself.

Can I create comparison tables for different furniture categories?

Yes. You can create separate comparison tables for sofas, dining tables, beds, and other categories — each with the dimension and material columns most relevant to that product type and your shoppers’ evaluation criteria.
